Aberdeen Metropolitan Area Network

AbMan Network Topology

The Aberdeen Metropolitan Area Network is a high-speed optical network connecting higher education, further educational and research establishments in the Aberdeen area. The network primarily provides TCP/IP services for information sharing between the establishments connected to the MAN. In addition it provides connections to the UK academic network, SuperJANET, which has links to other national and global networks.

  • The connections are 1Gbps Ethernet over single mode fibres rented from Thus or, for the University of Aberdeen, using a multimode patch lead.

  • CEH at Banchory has a 2Mbps G.703 circuit connecting via the serial port of a Cisco 2600 router.

  • The Banff and Buchan College connects over a 34Mbps Thus circuit connecting to the HSSI ports of Cisco 3620 routers.
